Among all the table tennis tournaments that I’ve participated in this year which may be some 6 tournaments, I’m very well satisfied playing in the 2007 US Nationals. The weather at Las Vegas was very good. I was very much impressed by Riviera hotel also. However, I have some satisfactions and dissatisfactions.

Satisfaction:

This was my second US National Tournament. What a journey from 2006 December to 2007 December! I received my first rating of 1398 in the 2006 US National, and in that tournament the highest rated event I participated in was 1700. In this year, the highest rated event that I participated in was 2200. I’m extremely happy that I can play against players rated at that level. In this year Nationals, I was able to beat high rated players like 1800s, and did not lose to any lower rated players than me. I consider that as an achievement.

I enjoyed playing doubles with Meg. Though we’ve lost, we played good against a combination of 1900 rated players. The games were close.

Dissatisfaction:

My greatest dissatisfaction is that I was not able to participate in the 1900 rated event. After two days of play, on Friday, I had severe pain in my body, and I could hardly move. The injury caused me not to participate.

In the 1800 event, I came to 16’s. I beat the opponent 11-2 in the first game. But his friend came across and took almost 5 minutes timeout, and he beat me 3-1. His long heavy under-spin serves troubled me in the games, but the most irritating thing was his friend cheering for him and coaching him while he plays.

From here to where:

My next target is 2008 US Open. I would like to play in the Open.

At the highest level, you will see more professionalism from the players. After a Chinese player barked at me at the San Diego Tournament in June, I feel so terrified against Chinese players. I have to talk to some Chinese friends and find out some tips to dominate them outside of the game :)

Glad you did well at the tournament. I didn’t do so good myself. I too had a few issues with the behavior or some players and spectators (including my own son). I started a list which I wish USATT would adopt!
