I occasionally use this rubber and love a lot. This rubber is not for a classic defensive player. This rubber suits a modern defensive player – for his forehand or backhand. It also suits an attacker who needs a variation in his backhand.
The XIOM Yanus DF rubber has a soft top sheet and sponge. I have used many inverted rubbers from many different manufactures, but I love the way the XIOM rubbers look - it has a clean surface. The rubber comes with a protective sheet which helps to keep the rubber fresh and clean for months. I would say this rubber will last for months.
I purchased this rubber to improve my chopping skills in my forehand in addition to keeping my top spin loops consistent. When I say ‘chop’, I’m not talking about the side fast push strokes some defensive players play. I’m talking about the heavy cut strokes against heavy top spin. Among all the rubbers that I have tried before like Butterfly Tackifire Drive, Joola Drum CWX and Joola Mambo Tuned, XIOM Yanus DF is the best rubber I would prefer for chopping. I had excellent control in directing the balls to different regions of the table, and it could really messes up the opponent. I was able to cut the heavy top spin balls successfully, and the chop can nullify the complete top spin and generate underspin. I was able to vary the amount of underspin from no spin ball to heavy underspin.
This rubber is built with a tensor effect, so the rubber is fast. I have to say this rubber is good for top spin loop strokes or counter attacks also. The rubber is also good for close to the table top spin and smash attacks. To increase the speed of the rubber, I regularly applied Dr.Neubaur Booster. The Dr.Neubauer Booster increased the speed by 35%, and I liked the way the rubber responded after applying the booster. I wont recommend to use speed glue with this rubber because it has built-in speed for a player who is rated between 1500 and 1800.
XIOM Yanus DF has a high throw angle. Any kind of block or top spin attacks go forward with high angle of throw. Some players like the high throw angle, but I don’t like it at all. I was able to reduce the throw angle after I applied the Booster. I could keep the ball low. I have tried the 1.5 mm version on a Joola Chen Weixing blade. I was able to loop from close to the table - the throw angle was low.
XIOM Yanus DF is a good rubber for blocking. The sponge can take heavy impact and change the trajectory of the ball that your opponent is expecting.
XIOM Yanus DF is a grippy rubber. It responds less to the incoming spin. I have been successful in flipping and pushing short underspin shots.
XIOM Yanus DF can’t do very good spinny serves. You need heavy brushing of the ball to generate spin. However, I have noticed the under spin generated through heavy impact of the ball to the blade caused troubles to my opponent. I have also seen generating serves with very less spin is possible with Yanus DF. The players who are used to top spin and under spin serves will have trouble in returning serves that come from Yanus DF.
The Yanus DF 1.5 mm version suits the back hand very well. The Yanus 2.0 mm version suits forehand or backhand. The classic and modern defenders will like Yanus DF.
