I have not used any Dr.Neubauer product for a while – for like 10 months. I was in a transition stage from a frictionless rubber to a friction rubber. It was my wish to come back after a while to try their new rubbers.
I have been trying Dr. Boomerang Classic long pips OX version for a week. I have tried the Boomerang Classic OX on TSP Yanagi Alpha and Dr.Neubauer Combination Effect (Custom and Commercial). The TSP Yanagi Alpha is a slow blade with low throw angle. The Dr.Neubauer Combination Effect is an all-round blade.
Deception
The Dr.Neubauer Combination Effect is a long pips rubber with friction. The spin reversal and deception of Boomerang Classic can be really appreciated. However, this is possible with very slow blades.
Speed & Control
I presume the Boomerang Classic is made in Germany. Even though it does not say, I think Boomerang Classic has the feel of a tensor rubber. The rubber is faster compared to previous versions as well as Monster. The rubber has good control. The ball takes a flat flight path after the stroke.
Chopping
The Boomerang Classic is not a suitable rubber for defensive players who would like to cut the ball with long stroke.
Blocking
Dr.Neubauer Boomerang Classic is not a good rubber for passive blocking high top spin and smashes. I have noticed the ball simply flying without control – this may due to the pips bend fast enough and rebound the ball faster. In such cases, it is required to do aggressive push with force forward as well as closing of the paddle. What I have seen effective against heavy top spin or smashes is to do chop block which will help the pips to bend up and slow the ball.
Hitting
The Dr.Neubauer Boomerang Classic is an excellent rubber for hitting. I have noticed the Boomerang Classic can neutralize the spin very well and takes a flat flight path. Against under-spin and no-spin, the Dr.Neubauer shines like a star. I would say it is very similar to TSP Curl P3 in its ability to hit.
The Dr.Neubauer Boomerang Classic is a not a direct replacement for Dr.Boomerang. Still, you can migrate to Boomerang Classic if you want to sacrifice your desire of seeing deception that you have seen with the frictionless pips. In addition, you have to move to a slower blade to have more control – although Dr.Neubauer Barricade is a slow blade, you may have to select something like Bulldozer to increase the deception.
