For almost two years, I have been using only water based glue to assemble the table tennis rubbers. I’m very happy to see the water based glue in the market. In my case it has helped in two main ways. I don’t have to withstand the foul smell of VOC containing glues. Secondly I like water based glue because it complies with the ITTF rule.
I have used few different water based glue from different manufactures. I have used (1) Butterfly Free Chack (2) Joola X-Glue (3) XIOM I-BOND and now I have tried TSP Water Bond.
Thickness:
The TSP Water Bond has no VOC. The TSP Water Bond water based glue is similar to Joola X-Glue or Butterfly Free Chack. However, it is thinner than both Joola X-Glue and Butterfly Free Chack.
Strength:
The TSP Water Bond makes the strongest bond among all the four water based glues that I have tried. That is a good thing for table tennis players who like to glue once and forget about it.
Time to bond:
TSP Water Bond glue needs more drying time. It gives a false sense that glue is dry but it is not likely. I touched the glue on the blade and the rubber to make sure it is dry. If you feel that the glue is watery, the glue is not dry yet.
Removal:
It is hard to remove the TSP Water Bond easy and fast. To remove the glue, put few more layers of glue. The thick glue layer is easy to remove than a thinner glue layer. There is no need to apply glue on the rubber sponge every time as it will have glue. Peeling of glue from the sponge can damage the sponge. The TSP Bond suits players who like to glue once and keep the bond for longer term.
