Everyone needs an explanation what does a cutman means. The TSP Cutman is a defensive rubber for the moderan defensive players. I have not seen a similar rubber to TSP Cutman in the market. I can think of Dr.Neubauer ABS, but that is an anti-spin rubber. The TSP Cutman is not an anti-spin rubber. It’s top sheet structure is similar to Tenergy 05, however the topsheet is spinny as Tenergy 05. The sponge is hard with hardness 60 degree.
This rubber is surely an innovation. You are going to be surprised by its behavior. On my Spintech Klassic allround blade, the TSP Cutman has high throw on block. It is highly impossible to block smash or hits with TSP Cutman. The rubber does not catapult the ball to the other side of the table. This is where I have noticed it’s behavior. The rubbers like Tenergy 05 catapult the ball at the impact. The TSP Cutman just absorbs all the speed and spin and the ball bounce with a slow rebound. An impression my opponents got and told me was the returns from TSP Cutman was very heavy knuckle ball without spin and less speed.
The high throw of TSP Cutman is helpful further away from the table chop. It is not a suitable chopping rubber for close to the table play. It’s high loop angle can be easily punished.
I was surprised by its ability to loop the ball. It has very high control at the looping. The ball does not travel with much speed like Tenergy 05, but the ball from the TSP Cutman carry a highly powerful and spinny topspin.
The topsheet of TSP Cutman can’t rotate the ball. The topsheet is very dead. To rotate the ball, the ball has to sink in the rubber a lot.
The TSP Cutman comes in 1.3, 1.7 and 2.1 mm sponge size. I have tried the 1.7 mm version. I surely recommend TSP Cutman to defensive players who want to trouble the opponent with cut or chop, knuckle ball, power top spin and hit.
