“You can’t push with long pips rubbers”. This is a statement I hear from players often. Is it right? I would say, it is not. It is right though to say it is difficult to push with long pips. One of the difficult stroke any long pips player struggle is push against underspin ball. If the defensive player does not know how to push with long pips, that would help the opponent to overcome him so much. Often the players confuse pushing with long pips with punch push which is an easy stroke to do. The punch push is a good stroke, however it is more effective to do a natural push stroke like you do with the inverted.
Tips for pushing with long pips just like you do with an inverted:
- It is easy to push against under-spin ball if your long pips rubber has some sponge on it. I find it easy to push with TSP Curl P1R 1.3 compared to TSP Curl P1R 0.6mm.
- The pips that are hard helps pushing easy. The TSP Curl P-H is easy to push compared to TSP Curl P1R or XIOM Guillotine. The Hallmark Super Defense helps pushing compared to Tibhar Grass Tech.
- The sponge helps pushing especially little more hard and dead. The TSP Curl sponges are harder than XIOM Guillotine’s.
- Irrespective any kind of long pips you use, you have to practice the timing and angle of contact to master the pushing. This requires releasing your blade from a tight grip to a loose one, and find the right angle. This is not something anyone can teach you, you have to figure out in practice.
- The long pips having friction help pushing easy. The TSP Curl seriers, XIOM Guillotine, Tibhar Grass DTech are long pips with a lot of friction. The TTMaster Punto, Fireproof, Selection, Fireproof II don’t have less friction on the pips.
Good luck with long pips pushing.
